Social Development reiterates commitment to strengthening SASSA grants

Social Development Department Minister Sisisi Tolashe has pledged her aid and commitment to increasing South African Social Security Company (SASSA) products and services through an engagement with the company's senior administrators in a strategic planning session in Cape Town.

Tolashe on Tuesday expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the various social grant beneficiaries, who excelled in the 2024 matric examinations.

Of your 724 156 full-time learners who registered to the National Senior Certification (NSC), 572 338 are social grant beneficiaries, symbolizing 81% on the registered pupils within the education and learning sector.

These learners obtained a commendable pass rate of 86%.

"This means that the expenditure government is earning from the lives of weak and vulnerable children is yielding a favourable effect in breaking intergenerational poverty," Tolashe said.

Reflecting on latest achievements, the Minister highlighted important milestones and ongoing priorities. She dedicated to urgently addressing the issue of permanent Management appointments as well as the lack of personnel at most regional places of work.

On top of that, the Minister highlighted the need for Local community-based read more engagements and outreach activities.
